Total Dye Multi Purpose UV Leak Detection Dye — 8oz
Total Dye Multi Purpose UV dye is a universal fluorescent leak detection dye compatible with all refrigerant types and lubricants — R134a, R410A, R404A, R22, R1234yf, POE oil, PAG oil, and mineral oil. Inject into the system and use a UV lamp to find refrigerant leaks that are impossible to locate by pressure testing alone. The dye circulates with the refrigerant and oil, glowing bright yellow-green wherever a leak is present.
Specifications
- Size: 8oz
- Type: Multi-purpose fluorescent UV dye
- Compatibility: All refrigerant types — R134a, R410A, R404A, R22, R1234yf, R407C, R32, and others
- Oil compatibility: POE, PAG, mineral oil, alkylbenzene
- Application: HVAC and automotive AC systems
When to Use UV Dye
- Slow or intermittent leaks — Leaks too small to find by pressure testing or electronic detection alone
- Post-repair verification — Confirm a repair is sealed before returning equipment to service
- Repeat callback investigation — When a system keeps losing charge and you can't find the source
- Preventive injection — Inject dye during a recharge so any future leak is immediately identifiable
Total Dye vs. Green UV Dye
- Total Dye (this product) — Multi-purpose; works with all refrigerant and oil types; ideal when you service a wide variety of equipment
- U/V Dye Green — Specifically formulated for automotive AC with R134a and PAG oil; 8oz treats up to 32 vehicles
Frequently Asked Questions
Does UV dye damage refrigerant systems?
No. UV dyes designed for refrigeration use are chemically inert and compatible with system materials. They circulate harmlessly with the refrigerant and oil.
Do I need a UV lamp to use this product?
Yes. UV leak detection dye is only visible under ultraviolet (UV) light. A UV lamp or UV flashlight is required to see the dye at leak points.
How much dye do I add?
Refer to the product label for dosage by system size. Typically 0.25–0.5 oz per system for residential HVAC; 0.5–1 oz for larger commercial systems.
